Week One, Once Again

I think it might be good for me to get in the habit of taking account of things that occur around me.

Perhaps you should too. And let me know so I have something fun to read in the morning with coffee!

Today I read the Anthropic IPO Prospectus.

It filled me with quite a lot of dread.

I was then led to a curious thought, can you invest in nukes?

Not directly, but you can invest in the companies making those nukes.

Ah yes. Investing in death. What an interesting world we live in.

However, fear has led me to be incredibly unproductive. I choose rather to be curious. Look at this intricate, complicated, and terrifying world we live in. How interesting. I shall do my part to invest in my community, my future, and my happiness while being mindful of the resources I am using and how I can better the lives of those around me.

Still, in that moment, as I read the potential use of AI for all sorts of nasty things, I forgot most of my philosophy of remaining positive, because it is this awful feeling that pushes me to consume more and more info to attempt and ease the dread that temporarily consumes me.

As I was pathetically sniffling and reading the report, I heard a chorus of pots and pans. The sound of someone making food. I entered the kitchen to find my roommate placing a tray of truffles in the freezer.

"What are you making?" I asked, and she responded promptly. Then she asked if I wanted one.

I sniffed, rubbed my watery eyes, and popped a chocolate truffle in my mouth. While munching and doing my laundry, I felt the existential dread go away. I wasn't being consumed with AI right now. I was eating a truffle. A very yummy truffle. I soon felt empowered by the knowledge I gained and the conversation I had with my roommate following the truffle.

Things I can't control: AI executives putting our lives at risk.

Things I can control: Eating a yummy truffle.
